Chichester Pet salon-

cat grooming terms and conditions

please make sure to read all of it- thank you

These terms and conditions ensures the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of every cat in our care. Grooming can be stressful for a lot of cats, so our approach focuses on calm, safe handling. Our priority is your cat’s welfare and if we think at any stage of the groom your cat is overly stressed, we will stop.

Cat Welfare and Handling-

  • Cats are handled calmly, confidently, and with care at all times.

  • For safety and efficiency, two groomers carry out each cat groom:

  • One person holds and reassures the cat, using safe and controlled restraint (including careful scruffing)

  • The other person performs the grooming work. This ensures the groom is completed more quickly, calmly, and safely for the cat.

  • If a cat becomes overly distressed or aggressive, the groom will be stopped for their well-being.

  • Rest breaks are provided when needed.

  • All grooming takes place in a quiet, calm, cat-only area. We make sure no dog grooming appointments overlap into cat appointments.

Health and behaviour-

  • Owners must inform us of any medical conditions, behavioural issues, or grooming history before/ at beginning of appointment.

  • Cats showing signs of illness (fleas, infections, wounds, or respiratory symptoms etc) may need to have their appointment rescheduled or adapted.

  • We reserve the right to refuse or stop a groom if a cat’s health or behaviour poses a risk to itself or staff.

Flea and Parasite Control-

  • Cats found with live fleas will incur a £15 cleaning surcharge due to the additional disinfection required.

  • Future appointments may be declined until the issue is fully treated.

Matting and Coat Condition-

  • Light to moderate matting may be carefully removed using appropriate tools or limited shaving for comfort and hygiene.

  • We do not offer full shaving, lion cuts/clips, or bathing services.

  • If a cat’s coat is severely matted or requires extensive clipping, we will refer the owner to a veterinary practice where this can be carried out safely, often under sedation if necessary.

  • We will never cause unnecessary pain or distress when removing mats.

Sedation Policy-

  • We do not sedate cats under any circumstances.

  • We also do not groom sedated cats.

  • If sedation is required for a cat’s welfare or safety, the owner must make arrangements with their veterinary practice, who can carry out the grooming themselves if appropriate.

Owner Consent-

  • Photos may be taken for records or social media only with written permission from the owner.

Payment and Cancellations-

  • Payment is due upon collection.

  • 48 hours’ notice is required for cancellations.

  • Missed or late cancellations may incur a fee.

Time Keeping-

  • Chichester Pet Salon works in a strict time frame to ensure that your cat receives ample grooming time and one-to-one care. We expect to admit you at your given appointment time. If you are early, we may not be able to grant immediate access and would ask that you wait until your allocated time. Likewise, if you are more than 15 minutes late, we may have to refuse your groom on welfare grounds as rushing the groom may lead to unnecessary stress and possible injury. A fee equal to the cost of the groom will be incurred. If you are more than 15 minutes late collecting your cat, a late collection charge may be incurred.

Emergency Situations-

  • In the event of injury, illness, or high stress, the groom will be stopped immediately and the owner or veterinary practice contacted if necessary.

  • The cat’s welfare always comes before the completion of the groom.

Our Promise-

We aim to make every grooming experience as calm, safe, and positive as possible. Our team is experienced in feline behaviour, handling, and grooming ensuring each cat is treated with compassion, care, and respect throughout their visit to us.
